Esteban Santiago has been identified as the shooter of the Ft. Lauderdale airport tragedy. During the conflicting reports of his background one Twitter user identified him as a "white hispanic" and replies to that message were of confusion.
Apparently some people don't realize that Hispanic and Latinos come in different shades. What some social media users fail to realize is that Hispanic is an ethnicity and "white" is a race.
There are reports that the identity of one of the Ft. Lauderdale shooting suspects is a white Hispanic named Esteban Santiago

There are Hispanics that identify as white. Just remember on the U.S. Census forms, where they ask to classify yourself and it says "white, not of Hispanic or Latino origin".
The term "white hispanic" started to be used to describe Santiago when an alleged criminal history record surfaced. In the description for race he is classified as white. People are conflicted by this as the photo of the supposed Esteban Santiago has a seemmingly darker complexion.
So referring to someone as White Hispanic based on their own and law enforcement's classification is wrong? So reading is "race baiting?" pic.twitter.com/SA2zggqgSl

Take a look at some of the reactions relating to the term "white hispanic":
What's a white Hispanic? Is that the same kind of thing as a black polar bear?

I like all the folks who don't know shit about Latin America treating 'White Hispanic' like they're unicorns. It's called colonialism.

They're just adding "white" as a harsh adjective now
