Camila Cabello is the queen of the Billboard charts this week as her debut album and hit song "Havana" top the Billboard 200 Albums chart and the Hot 100 Tracks chart. "Camila" is Cabello's first full-lenght album as a solo artist following her exit from Fifth Harmony, earning 119,00 equivalent album units in the week ending Jan. 18, according to Billboard. The last time a woman made their debut at the top spot was in 2015 when Meghan Trainor's "Title" was released.
"Havana" was also the most listened to track last week and bagged Camila her first No. 1 ever, going from the second spot to the top of the list. Cabello had previously peaked at No. 4 with her girlband with the "Work From Home" track which featured Ty Dolla $ign. More recently, the "Inside Out" singer had also reached the same spot with her duet with Machine Gune Kelly and "Bad Things."
Camila is beyond excited to the great news and she took to Twitter to express her gratitude. "I can’t even believe this," she wrote. "This is all because of you and how hard you go for me we DID IT!!!!!!! can’t be articulate right now because i’m speechless but my heartbeat is saying a million words at a time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love you."
Camila's album was originally titled "The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving," but when through a change in the process. "I decided to call it by my name, because this is where this chapter in my life ended," she wrote. "It started with somebody else's story, it ended with me finding my way back to myself."
In an interview with Zane Lowe, Cabello said that her album is not only having a title change, but the tracklist will be different as well as she has a different vision for it now. "Everything that I talked about it in an interview, it just made it really difficult to really move on," she said. "I don’t want to give that power over somebody else — that the whole first album revolves around them and this bad situation. It's giving that too much power." She also added, "I think that everything happens in a parallel way, where it was me taking power over the title and control over what the album was about and me just taking power over my own life.”
She also said: "I feel like it’s important for me as a new artist, and especially people hearing ‘Havana’ and more people kind of knowing who I am, I think that it’s really important that the message is, like, super consistent."
In an interview with Glamour magazine last year, she said that she wanted to write songs for immigrants. "Right now I’m in the process of writing about our whole journey," Cabello told the publication. "I want to make a love song for immigrants. That word, immigrant, has such a negative connotation—I can just imagine all the little girls who have dreams of coming here and feel unwanted. It inspires me in my music to do my best to give [them] the light that I have. I want to be what people think of when they think of America—a person who, no matter what her first language was or what her religion is, can see her dreams come to life if she works hard enough."
