California man captures own murder on hidden camera: Report

A California man left a hidden camera recording in his pocket when he went to confront his ex-girlfriend, and now police say he may have just caught his own murder on camera.

Investigators said that David Ramirez, 43, was found shot dead in the home of Analleli Garcia-Mejia in San Leonardo. The two used to live at the residence together.

Police found Garcia-Mejia with a gunshot wound to the leg after receiving a phone call from her saying that both of them had been shot and pepper-sprayed in a domestic violence incident on Aug. 24, according to court documents.

Garcia-Mejia was the only witness, until police discovered the hidden camera under her sink where Garcia-Mejia had tried to dispose of it, court records stated.

According to court filings, Ramirez previously told police that he was worried about Garcia-Mejia making "false accusations," and had previous used the hidden camera as evidence.

On the day of the incident, police said that the camera caught the couple arguing, and the sound of the gunshot that killed Ramirez. Police said that Garcia-Mejia shot Ramirez in the chest, but Ramirez continued trying to get the gun from her. During this, police said Garcia-Mejia was shot in the leg, and Ramirez later succumbed to his injuries.

Garcia-Mejia later discovered the hidden camera in Ramirez's pocket, and attempted to destroy it, authorities said. She first tried to destroy it by placing it in water, then attempted to take it apart, before finally hiding it under the kitchen sink.

Garcia-Mejia was arrested and charged with murder. She is being held at Santa Rita Jail with no bail.

A Gofundme has been set up for Ramirez's 7-month-old daughter, who he shared with Garcia-Mejia. "Our family holidays will never be the same as he was not only a father but a brother, son, cousin, and uncle. He played such an important role in our family, teaching his nieces and nephews about his learnings during their adventures," the Gofundme said.
