Twenty years after Gregory Nava directed Jennifer Lopez in what turned out to be her breakout role, “Selena” the two are reteaming for a limited NBC series about the history of Latinos in California. The show will supposedly follow a Latino family through a journey of 200 years living in the state from its Spanish and Mexico ruling, to becoming part of the United States. According to Deadline’s report, Lopez’s producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Tomas initially pitched the story to Nava and his longtime collaborator, Barbara Martinez-Jitner.
With Nava already in the director’s chair, production will be a joint effort between Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions and Sony Pictures TV. Lopez and Goldsmith-Thomas will executive produce along with Nava & Martinez-Jitner and Benny Medina. During the two or three years, Lopez and Goldsmith-Thomas have been stepping up their TV game at Nuyorican with two drama series on the air, “The Fosters” on ABC Family and the upcoming cop drama starring Lopez, “Shades of Blue” on NBC.
