A mother of four made the devastating discovery that her family had been brutally murdered in their own home.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department initiated an investigation following the murder of the five victims. 29-year-old Germarcus David turned himself in and is the primary accused in the incident. He is being held in police custody and will face trial for the murders.
The woman, who has been unofficially identified as Tyanna Brown, returned to the home on 3500 block of Garnet Lane in Lancaster, California on Sunday, Nov. 28 night. She was the first to find her mother and children shot dead. She reportedly called 911 around 10:30 p.m.
Emergency services arrived at the home shortly after the call. Deputies at the scene found four children under the age of 12 and a woman in her 50s with gunshot wounds to their torsos. The victims were reported dead at the scene of the crime. Their bodies were removed from the home and sent for post mortem examinations.
The Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the murders. Within hours of the shooting, early Monday, Nov. 29 morning David reportedly surrendered. He was charged with the murder of the victims and remains in prison. His first court appearance is set to be on Tuesday, Nov. 30. His bail amount has been set at $2 million.
Police are yet to officially identify the victims. The Daily Mail reported that David’s deceased mother-in-law was Los Angeles correctional officer Ericka England. Speaking to Los Angeles Times, a friend of the family Waki Jones shared the names and ages of the two older children.
Jones said that he often picked the children up for school and daycare. He revealed that the oldest child was a 12-year-old girl named Amaya. The second oldest was her nine-year-old brother Demarcus. Jones said that he did not know the names and ages of the two younger boys who were killed.
The Sheriff’s office is yet to determine a cause for the killings. Court records reportedly show that Brown had filed for divorce from David in 2020. However, the divorce filing was later withdrawn. There appear to be no records of domestic violence between the couple.
David, a licensed security guard, since 2012 had had three firearms permits. The most recent of the permits were issued in August 2018, but it had expired in August 2020.
Investigation into the incident continues.
