A California public library is facing backlash for approving an expensive plaque celebrating their anniversary with a design that prominently features "MAGA," a slogan closely associated with President Donald Trump.

The Huntington Beach Central Library shared its commemorative plaque with a design that features an acrostic spelling "MAGA" with the words Magical, Alluring, Galvanizing, and Adventurous, KTLA reported.

Despite strong public opposition consisting of more than 300 emails and 40 speakers against it, the Huntington Beach Community and Library Services Commission unanimously approved the plaque's design.

Critics argue it politicizes a nonpartisan institution, while supporters, including city officials, dismiss concerns, with one commissioner stating, "Making America great is not a racist comment."

The final decision now rests with the City Council, which will vote on the plaque next week. Given its conservative majority, approval is likely.

The plaque is expected to cost up to $7,000 and will be funded through private donations.
