Americans have taken to social media to share stories about their MAGA-supporting neighbors removing their merchandise in recent weeks, with some even flying an upside-down Trump flag, a symbol typically associated with distress.
Reddit user GimmeSumCredit shared a photo in r/pics of a red, upside-down Trump flag captured on the way to work. Thousands of Redditors chimed in with similar instances of family, friends and neighbors who have seemingly turned their back on President Donald Trump by removing MAGA merchandise.
RichardSharpe95th, a resident in north Atlanta, stated a MAGA supporter who lived on a horse farm had inundated their land with "flags, pictures, vitriolic slogans, and cult like worship signs for years." As of a few weeks ago, the user shared "all the Trump crap is gone."
Another shared a neighbor has nailed a huge Trump flag to a fence since 2016 along with a sandwich board with MAGA-adjacent messages, such as, "Her emails!" However, the user shared the board has not had a message since the election and the flag has been removed. In its place, the homeowner spray painted the message, "Elon Owns MAGA."
"The 'don't blame me I voted Trump' flag that has been flying for 4 years has disappeared from a neighbor's flag pole," Reddit user wheresWaldo000 added.
The anecdotes come with little surprise as the president's approval rating hit the lowest it has been since he started his second term. A Navigator Research poll published Tuesday, days after the "Liberation Day" tariffs rollout, revealed President Trump's overall approval rating is down a net 11 points (from net +2 to net -9) and his economic rating is down 14 points (from net +1 to net -13).
