A couple of big men will be moving to new teams following a multiplayer deal that involved Serge Ibaka and Marvin Bagley III.
The Milwaukee Bucks add a defensive-minded presence in Serge Ibaka, someone who could provide their NBA title defense a boost, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported.
Ibaka is a three-time all-defensive team member and two-time blocks champion, undoubtedly a veteran player who improves the defensive needs of head coach Mike Budenholzer.
Aside from the 32-year-old player who already has an NBA title under his belt (with the Toronto Raptors in 2019), the Bucks also acquired Donte DiVincenzo from the Sacramento Kings, another team involved in the multi-team trade alongside the Detroit Pistons.
Detroit acquired Marvin Bagley III in the deal after letting go of Trey Lyles and Josh Jackson. The Kings and the Piston will also send out two future second-round picks according to sources.
The Bucks gave up Semi Ojelye and Rodney Hood for their part, both headed to the Los Angeles Clippers in the four-team deal.
"You never want to see trading guys away that have been with you. ... We are not the only team that is going through it. We just got to get past [the] 3 o'clock [trade deadline] so we can get our minds right and focus on who is going to be here," Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue said about the trade.
From the looks of it, Lue will be turning to a small-ball setup. Before the recent trade, the Clips had already acquired Norman Powell and Robert Covington. But that depends on how well the new recruits will blend in with Lue’s system.
For Bagley, the move gives him another chance to prove his worth. Although he was the second overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-11 center has hardly lived up to the expectations with injuries and limited playing time over in Sacramento. It remains to be seen if he can blossom into one in Motor City.
