"Breaking Bad" might have finished over two weeks ago, but Walter White has only properly been laid to rest over the weekend. In Albuquerque, New Mexico a fake funeral was held on Saturday to lay the meth kingpin to rest, the Albuquerque Journal reports. The event raised over $17,000 for a local charity, HealthCare for the Homeless. The funeral was attended by over 200 "mourners" who came to pay their last respects to White. AMC's hit show recently ended its historic run with five seasons of filming in Albuquerque itself. The event took place at Albuquerque's Sunset Memorial Park cemetery, following a procession through the city that included White's beat up RV where he cooked his first batch of meth.

The event was sponsored by local restaurant, Vernon's Steakhouse, which created an endowment fund for the charity. Tickets to the reception following the service were $100 -- guests were served drinks with blue ice. Donations ranged from $10 to $10,000 throughout the day. The show's set decorator, Michael Flowers delivered the eulogy, expressing what many of us have lately been feeling: "We all need closure. The show is over, and what the hell are we going to do on Sunday nights?" The Albuquerque Journal even featured an obituary to White. Michael Baird, owner of Vernon's Steakhouse, stated "This is an enormous opportunity for the Albuquerque community to benefit again from the worldwide phenomenon of Breaking Bad, With this event . . . Walter White's legacy and final amends will have a positive impact on Albuquerque for many years to come."
The event was not, however, without its share of controversy. The funeral was supposed to be live streamed via YoutTube, however, the video was soon blocked due to copyright infringement. Meanwhile, the Hollywood Reporter claims that critics have protested the event fearing it might draw tourists to what is an actual cemetary. A petition has even been started to remove Walter White's headstone.
