A 28-year-old man bludgeoned his girlfriend to death with a hammer before killing himself in India’s Raipur district. The 12-year-long love story came to a tragic end over suspicion of infidelity, according to reports.
The shocking murder-suicide took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, July 13.
Kamlesh Kumar repeatedly attacked his 28-year-old girlfriend, Archana Sahu with a hammer and blade at her rented house in the Bandhwapara locality. He then hanged himself to death, the Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Akash Rao Giripunje said, NDTV reported.
Sahu worked as a call tracker in the emergency response service Dial-112
The crime is an aftermath of a series of altercations between the victim and the accused who suspected her of infidelity. They had been in a love relationship for the past 12 years, the official said.
On the night of the tragedy, the accused went to the victim’s rented home and confronted her over her alleged affair with another man in the village.
Neighbors said they heard loud noises and tried to intervene but the accused locked the door from the inside.
Police were alerted about the assault. When they responded to the home and broke open the front door, they found the woman lying unresponsive in a pool of blood with her face disfigured and the man hanging dead from the ceiling fan.
During a search, police recovered a hastily scribbled note in which Kumar reportedly wrote of his doubts about Sahu’s character.
The note will be examined by a handwriting expert who will determine if the note was written by the suspect himself, police said.
Meanwhile, the bodies were sent to a medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will confirm the exact cause of death.
A case of unnatural death has been registered and a further probe is underway, reports said.
In a similar murder-suicide incident, a 24-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife by drowning her head in a bucket full of water and later killed himself by jumping in front of a running train, according to reports.
The dismembered body of Mahananda Biswas was found on the railway tracks near Lakdikapul Railway Station in the Indian city of Hyderabad on June 28.
His 21-year-old wife, Komta Sarkar was found dead at their rented home in Chintalbasti under the Panjagutta police station limits.
During further investigation, it was learned that the couple often engaged in fights as Biswas doubted his wife’s character, reports said.
On Monday, the couple got into a heated argument, during which Biswas beat his wife and then drowned her to death in a water bucket in the house. He then killed himself by coming under a speeding train.
