Three stabbings were reported in the early hours of Wednesday in Northwest, Washington DC. The incident occurred a couple of hours after Donald Trump falsely claimed “victory,” even as the results of the U.S presidential elections hang in balance.
As per the statements released by DC police, the stabbing took place at 1400 block of New York Avenue, at around 2:25 a.m., roughly about two blocks away from the White House.
Among those who sustained minor injuries in the knife attack, two were chairman Enrique Tarrio and prominent member Bevelyn Beatty of the Proud Boys – an extremist pro-Trump group, in what seems like a face-off between members of Black Lives Matter and Trump supporters. Video footage shows an altercation between six people before the suspects fled the scene.
“We were helping some guy that was getting stabbed by two black males and one female,” said Tarrio, as per a media outlet. “Bevelyn got stabbed as well as two Proud Boys and the guy they were attacking. I got slashed, but it's not serious. We were walking to our cars,” he added. The incident occurred shortly after Trump’s announcement celebration among Proud Boys – an extremist pro-Trump group – who ushered in the “win” by marking white power symbols in several bars across the city.
While the affiliations of the three stabbing suspects are yet to be known, it has been noted that one suspect was described as a black woman wearing black sweatpants with a white stripe, orange leggings, and a dark gray coat, armed with a knife. A further probe is underway as what instigated the incident is yet to be known.
“After more extensive investigation with the victims of the crime, we don't know who (the suspects) are affiliated with,” said D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham, enthusing that the victims co-operated when while being interviewed at the hospital.
Bouts of unrest were witnessed in several parts of the United States. Around 40 people were detained in Los Angeles after demonstrators blocked train tracks and failed to disperse, in a revolting act. Seattle police reported that eight individuals were arrested along with a group of people who placed nails in a roadway. In Minneapolis, 13 women and one man were arrested for kickstarting a riot as the election progressed.
Protesters in North Carolina thronged the streets of Raleigh and chanted 'whoever wins, we lose' in unison before cops arrived at the scene and nabbed six for hurling projectiles at police.
