US President Joe Biden warned of a "consequential" response should Russian President Vladimir Putin decide to use tactical nuclear or chemical weapons amid Ukraine's success in the battlefield.

Biden, however, did not explain this further in the interview with CBS' "60 Minutes" that airs on Sunday. "Depending on the extent of what they do will determine what response would occur," he said.

Biden was asked what he would say to Putin if he is considering using chemical or tactical nuclear weapons, to which he replied, "Don't. Don't. Don't."

"It would change the face of war unlike anything since World War Two," Biden said.

Ukraine was able to retake some of its cities and towns located in the northeastern part of the country from Russian forces in the past week.

While some in the West worry that Russia would retaliate against Ukraine using tactical nuclear weapons, Moscow's officials have dismissed this.

Putin himself, however, previously floated the possibility of using nuclear weapons in response to Western intervention.

"No matter who tries to stand in our way or ... create threats for our country and our people, they must know that Russia will respond immediately, and the consequences will be such as you have never seen in your entire history," Putin said.
