The Bibas family berated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week for "adding details" about their relatives' deaths.
Although Yarden Bibas was released by Hamas last month, his wife, Shiri, and their two young sons, Ariel and Kfir, who were taken as hostages by the Mujahideen Brigades, returned to Israel in caskets on Feb. 21.
Since then, despite a cease and desist from the Bibas family, Netanyahu has shared a photo of the family, which he held up at a recent military ceremony, and publicized details about their deaths, including in a recorded speech shared with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee on Tuesday, the Middle East Eye reported.
"The family must not be pressured to allow these murders to be exploited for so-called public purposes," Ofri Bibas, the sister of Yarden, wrote in a Facebook post shared Tuesday. "So if I could say one thing to everyone on behalf of the Bibas family, just shut up," she added.
The Israel Defense Forces' spokesperson confirmed Israeli officials knew the Bibas family members were killed in November 2023 but continued using them as collateral to continue the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
The family prohibited Israeli government officials from attending their funeral on Wednesday for not returning their bodies sooner and failing to apologize for it, NPR reported.
