Bentley reaches for its heritage once again as it displays teaser illustrations of a possible future Convertible Concept.
Unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Convertible Concept is a nod to the Bentley Park Ward S1 Drophead Coupe from the 1950s. According to Bentley, the design study is a “glimpse into the potential future of the marque’s flagship family.”
Clearly based on the flagship Muslanne, Bentley claims that early mock ups were heavily influenced by the elegance of high performance power-boats.
What’s more, while many of the lines retain the classic Bentley coupe profile since the ‘50’s, the Convertible Concept illustrations feature an especially ginormous set of wheels, a sculpted two-door design with signature bladed haunches over the rear wheels, as well as a more steeply raked greenhouse for a more sporting and aggressive profile that seems lower to the ground.
Only early sketches are available for now, but this Mulsanne-based Convertible Concept certainly has the presence necessary to take on the likes of the Phantom Drophead Coupe. Expected to feature the classic six-and-three quarters V8 engine, the Convertible Concept will likely offer 530-hp and mountains of torque.
