There's a thin line between love and hate — and clearly actress Bella Thorne and her ex-girlfriend rapper Tana Mongeau have crossed it. The two recently engaged in a heated exchange on Twitter.
Bella told her social media followers that she was no longer friendly with Tana. "Tana and I are no longer good. She broke girl code. I’m over it."
Tana seemed confused by Bella's accusation. Commenting on Bella's declaration, she slammed the actress for having a Twitter outburst each time they had a misunderstanding. She then pointed out that Bella still kept claiming to care for her.
For her part, Bella further accused Tana of dating her only to get Twitter followers. She then urged Tana to answer her phone "instead of being on Twitter." Tana fired back by pointing out that she had been texting Bella throughout their Twitter tiff.
So, that's where Bella and Tana's story is at for now. It remains to be seen if they can patch things up.
Bella — who got her big break in the popular Disney Channel series “Shake It Up” — came out as bisexual in December 2016. Then, in September 2017, she and Tana confirmed that they were officially dating. Their romance had blossomed when they hung out together at the "Life is Beautiful" music festival in Las Vegas.
The Bella-Tana relationship was definitely unconventional. Bella later revealed that they had an open relationship. Indeed, while she professed to be committed to Bella was also seeing rapper Mod Sun (real name Derek Smith).
In a January 2019 interview with "Gay Times," Bella said, "I don’t think anybody will really understand the bonds that I share with Mod or Tana." She went on to say that they "don't put a word, a box or label too many things." She likewise added that while she was open to dating both men and women, she found it "easier" to date men compared to women. "I can’t tell if a girl is trying to be best friends with me or if she wants to get with me or if she just wants social media followers," Bella explained.
Bella and Tana's unusual arrangement thrived. In September 2018, they marked their first anniversary. Tana posted on Instagram a photo of herself and Bella to celebrate the milestone. Part of her caption dedicated to Bella declared, "You are the most perfect, incredible, talented, confident, resilient, strong, selfless individual I've ever met and every second I spend with you I'm inspired and grateful. Here's to a year with the girl who made me realize that for me, love has no gender or boundaries."
Unfortunately, in February 2019, Bella and Tana announced that they had split up. They claimed that it was an amicable parting of ways. Tana even tweeted: "I love her forever, don't get that twisted. She changed my life forever." Two months after, Bella also broke up with Mod.
Bella and Tana stayed friendly up until June 24, when the latter turned 21. Bella posted a heartfelt greeting on her Instagram page. She shared a photo of herself and Tana. She referred to Tana as a "beautiful special girl." That same day, Tana also announced that she was engaged to fellow YouTube personality Jake Paul. Bella was not exactly ecstatic over that development, as she soon posted a slideshow of photos showing her in tears. However, it's not really clear if Tana's enagagement is what caused the actress to accuse her ex of breaking the so-called girl code.
