“Gotham” is a forthcoming series ordered by Fox, the show will serve as a prequel to the “Batman” story fans know so well. “Gotham” will star Ben McKenzie as a young Detective James Gordon, during his early days on the Gotham City Police Department. Gordon is a new recruit in Captain Sarah Essen’s GCPD, he is paired with Harvey Bullock to solve one of the most high profile cases of the city, the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne.
A young Gordon then meets an even younger Bruce Wayne and the story of “Batman” truly begins. Along the journey fans will encounter the origins of even more famous DC characters. Gotham’s future villains will be featured on their criminal journey, most notably Selina Kyle, the city’s future “Catwoman” as well as Oswald Cobblepot, who will become “The Penguin.” In addition to this well-known personalities, “Gotham” will introduce a new controlling force in gang boss “Fish Mooney.” Portrayed by Jada Pinkett Smith, “Fish Mooney” serves as the current boss of Oswald Cobblepot, and according to Warner Bros. TV, Mooney is a “sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner, Fish Mooney's got the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Imposing and hotheaded, she's not one to be crossed."
Fans of the series are looking forward to seeing “Fish Mooney” evolve into a well-known DC villain. It is more than likely that Smith’s character is an enemy of the future Caped Crusader in disguise. The focus of the premiere episode will be Gordon investigating the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents, the same event that pushes the young billionaire to become the “Dark Knight.” However, as opposed to the film franchise starring Christian Bale, “Gotham” will feature an even more intimate relationship between the young Wayne and Gordon. In addition to the infamous comforting coat Gordon slipped over Wayne in the wake of the tragedy, Gordon assured the future “Batman” that the murder of his parents will be solved. “I promise you,” Gordon tells Wayne, “I will find the man who did this.”
