Baseball Fan Suffers From Cardiac Arrest, Dies In Hospital

During Thursday's baseball game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Chicago White Sox, a man suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died, according to a report. The game was paused for approximately four minutes during the bottom of the seventh inning while a stretcher cut across the field while the unidentified man received CPR.

The first player to have noticed was Kevin Youkilis, third baseman for the White Sox, who saw a commotion in the stadium seats. He immediately brought this to the attention of Mark Wegner, an umpire. Wegner and another umpire, Mike Winters, called a time out for the game after Moises Sierra of the Blue Jays hit a foul ball. The man was taken on the stretcher onto the field, and a paramedic continued to try to recover him, even while the stretcher was driven off the field toward an ambulance waiting outside.

It is also worth mentioning that the Associated Press reported that this was not the first occasion of a fan receiving CPR at the Rogers Centre, home of the Blue Jays, this season. The first incident occurred on June 29, but no fatalities occurred that day.

At the conclusion of the game, John Farrell, manager of the Blue Jays, commented, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the person who was taken out of here tonight."
