A baby was killed and some other 50 people were reportedly injured after being hit by hailstones in a storm in Spain.
The 20-month-old girl was struck on the head by a huge four-inch hail stone and rushed to the Josep Trueta Hospital hospital in Girona, Catalonia, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The cause of death was reported to be due to severe head trauma.
The baby girl was one of 50 people hurt after tennis-ball-sized hailstones smashed through roofs and car windscreens in and around the Catalan town of La Bisbal de l'Emporda on Tuesday night, Aug. 30.
“The hail only fell for 10 minutes, but it was 10 minutes of terror,” said councillor Carme Vall, according to Agence France Presse.
Videos shared on social media shows the enormous hailstones smashing onto the streets of Spain, shattering car windscreens and even breaking roofs of buildings.

The people receiving treatment at the hospitals are said to have suffered head injuries, broken bones, or cuts from the ice that needed stitches, local broadcaster TV3 reported.
“There was chaos, with little boys and girls running around alone, some parents were able to grab their children,” Sicus Carbonell, a musician who filmed some of the tragic storm, told Reuters.
"There was a little girl of around three or four who was not sheltering under the parasol. I ran out and grabbed her...
“Then a hailstone broke though the fabric ... and I told my group that either we get into the restaurant or one of those tennis balls would land on us and we wouldn’t make it,” he was quoted saying.
