"Avengers: Age of Ultron" release date isn't until May 15, 2015, but we're already learning some awesome details on the upcoming Marvel heroes movie! In fact, Marvel Studios has just unveiled an epic concept illustration featuring an intense fight scene between Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk for the upcoming Avengers sequel.
The concept art features Tony Stark in his specialized "Hulkbuster" Iron Man armor, which makes his size even greater than the Hulk. The art depicts the two superheroes in an all-out sumo grapple. According to "Avengers 2" director Joss Whedon, the faceoff is a very important element in the movie. Marvel comic fans will know that Tony Stark and Bruce Banner are extremely brilliant scientists as well as best friends, so it is exciting to see their alter egos take on one another in a serious battle.
"It makes sense because there's no one who can really go up against Hulk, but more importantly, those guys are best friends, so what that battle is and what it means is fascinating to me," explained Whedon.
In the first Avengers movie, we learn why Tony Stark and Bruce Banner were able to form such a strong bond. First, they are both brilliant scientists and are the only ones capable of challenging one another in witty scientific banter. Tony Stark is a graduate of MIT and an expert in mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, and computer science. Bruce Banner is unmatched in biology, physiology, and nuclear physics. His knowledge in chemistry and engineering is on par with Tony Stark.
More importantly, both Tony Stark and Bruce Banner share similar vulnerability. Stark designed an arc reactor for his chest as a solution that prevents a piece of shrapnel from reaching his heart. Likewise, massive exposure to gamma radiation would have killed Bruce Banner if it didn't also give Banner his Hulk abilities. Both Stark and Banner regard their Iron Man and Incredible Hulk alter-egos as a "cursed privilege."
However, unlike Tony Stark, Bruce Banner does not have complete control over his Hulk transformation. Oftentimes, the Hulk transformation is triggered by moments of intense emotional swings, usually anger or sadness. To ensure that he does not lose control and unintentionally cause harm to innocent lives and to the people he loves, it is highly possible that Bruce decided to entrust Tony with the responsibility of suppressing him if he turns. If this is the case, then it is possible that Tony Stark designed the "Hulkbuster" Iron Man suit to Banner's specifications.
The "Avengers 2" release date is May 15, 2015. Stay tuned as we learn more about the highly anticipated Marvel movie in the months ahead!
