Arsenal finished fourth in the English Premier League last season and entering the current transfer window, manager Arsene Wenger and company had a substantial amount of finances to use in order to strengthen the club.

A primary target of the Gunners this off-season was current Liverpool scorer Luis Suárez. Submitting two separate bids for the services of the striker -- the last bid north of £40m -- it looked as though Suarez would eventually wind up with the EPL affiliate.

According to ESPN FC however, Luis Suárez has surprised many with an announcement indicating that he will stay at Liverpool for at least another season.

"Luis Suárez confirms to me that he will not leave Liverpool," journalist Martin Charquero of GolTV said. "The support of the fans in recent weeks influenced his decision. Suárez sees it as likely that he'll sign a renewal to the contract that binds him to Liverpool."

If in fact Suárez is set to remain with Liverpool, head coach Brendan Rodgers says that his premier striker will not be permitted to participate with the first-team until he apologizes for trying to force a transfer move.

Suárez will also miss the club's first six games while he serves a 10-game suspension for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in April.

The 26-year-old has recorded 38 goals in 77 appearances with Liverpool over the last three seasons and because he is one of the premier scorers in the game, many of his teammates aren't shocked that other clubs would be interested in his services.

"He is one of the best players in the world, so I can understand why clubs are showing an interest in him," Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard told The Guardian. "If I can use my influence to try to make him stay, of course I will do that. I enjoy playing with him and I don't want him to go. For Liverpool to be successful and to keep moving forward, we need to keep our best players."

For now, it looks as though Luis Suárez will remain at Anfield, and that's certainly good news for all those associated with the Liverpool club.
