Rumors have been swirling around that Ariana Grande was paid twice as much as Beyonce when she headlined this year’s Coachella. While Beyonce received only $4 million for her historical Coachella performance last year, Grande reportedly got $8 million this year — suggesting that the “Thank U, Next” singer is now worth twice as much as Queen Bey.
Reports of Grande getting double of what Beyonce got last year at the famous music festival was a tough pill to swallow for some, especially for fans of Queen Bey who believe that Beyonce’s performance at the 2018 Coachella was difficult to top — even by someone as big and as popular as Grande.
“To see how much work, time and thought has been put into Beyonce’s set and her being paid 2-3 times less than Ariana who basically did her concert show makes me sick,” one Beyonce fan tweeted.
“No disrespect to Ariana, but Beyonce still owns the best Coachella performance of all time. It was so thought out and flawless. Ariana had multiple technical difficulties (which wasn’t her fault) but her lighting choice was and it was way TOO dark. Bey thought of EVERYTHING,” another fan commented.
As it turns out, reports of Grande being worth twice as Beyonce is only half-true. While it is true that Beyonce got $4 million last year for her Coachella performance, it was only half of what she got in total because she had two performances all in all. That makes it $8 million — the same as what Grande was given for her performance this year.
Sources have revealed that Beyonce and Grande got $4 million each for their first weekend performances and another $4 million for the second weekend, meaning they were given the same pays. Their contracts also reportedly had the same structure, so there’s no way Grande could have undercut Beyonce paycheck-wise.
Although Beyonce was not the star of this year’s Coachella, her 2018 performance at the world-famous festival certainly made an impression. Her spectacular Coachella performance last year spawned her new concert film, “Homecoming,” which debuted on Netflix last week. She’s also set to release a new live album of her Coachella performance soon.
