With a mere five days until Apple 'brightens everyone's day' with their Sept. 10 media event, rumors and product speculation have run rampant. We are expecting Apple to unveil the next installment of iPhone, the coveted iPhone 5S. Additionally, we may see a second iPhone, a colorful, mid-range model boosting the supposed name of iPhone 5C. And while, we are giddy with excitement to simply catch a glimpse of the new devices, new rumors have us wondering if we will see even more from Apple this month! Another potential announcement for the Cupertino-based company is the new Apple TV.
And even more exciting Apple TV is already en route. 3 overseas shipments to Apple, were spotted by Panjiva, a trade intelligence company, who confirmed that the shipment consisted of TV-related products. Apple received a shipment entitled "Set Top Box with Communication Function" from BYD Precision Manufacture in Shenzhen, China, according to Panjiva. On Aug. 18, Apple received another shipment of "Set Top Boxes" again BYD Precision Manufacture. BYD is a noted Apple suppliers, and according to the shipment titles Apple is well into its refresh of their TV technology. The set-top box is the entity of Apple TV, the 99$ box allows viewers to sync up to their television in order to seamlessly stream video from Netflix, iTunes, YouTube and more right on your TV.
Despite, Apple's co-founder Steve Jobs describing Apple TV as a company "hobby," CEO Tim Cook announced in May that Apple was working on a "grand vision" for television. The company also recently acquired app startup Macha.TV in August, the app will assist the Apple TV in enabling content discovery from mobile devices. A new Apple TV has been release about once a year since its original release in May of 2007, however, according to MacRumors it has been over 540 days since a publicized Apple TV refresh. While Apple did perform a "silent" update with a new chip this year, the company has been aggressively acquiring and updating new services to refresh Apple TV. This recent news could mean that Apple will roll out some new groundbreaking Apple TV hardware alongside new iPhones.
