According to a report from BGR Apple has already seeded a new build of iOS 7.1 to its testing partners or carriers. The report also suggest that Apple has set a public release for the software update for March 2014. If this were the case then it would mark more than four months of testing for iOS 7.1. Seeing how the beta was seeded to developers mid-November and then iOS 7.1 beta two was released mid-December. This is not an uncommon practice for Apple, before Mavericks OS X 10 was officially released Mountain Lion was tested over a three-month period.
The current version of Apple’s newest software, iOS 7.0.4, was released Nov. 14. If an iOS 7.1 release is not planned until March, it is most likely that Apple will release iOS 7.0.5 in the interim, though no blogs or websites have reported having seen any sign of the software in recent logs. MacRumors points out that iOS updates frequently, though not always, show up in their site analytics but this update has failed to make an appearance.
iOS 7.1 is expected to include multiple bug fixes along with new accessibility options in the form of "Button Shapes" and potential support for iOS in the Car. Given the minor updates bundled into iOS 7.1, it is unclear why such a lengthy testing period is necessary unless apple is planning some big surprise for users. Historically apple has released the iOS .1 updates sporadically. Last year, Apple released its iOS 6.1 update in January, though its iOS 5.1 update also came in March in 2012.
