Apple has released the fifth beta of iOS 7.1 to developers. The new beta included numerous bug fixes along with minor updates to the operating system. While the last couple of 7.1 beta releases have seen visual changes this latest release has only seen a few additional tweaks to further flesh out the look of iOS 7. Some of the tweaks include the calendar, keyboard, airdrop, Siri and wallpaper.
The Keyboard has been changed again. As seen iOS 7.1 beta 3 Apple introduced a new design for the shift key. It was revealed that the change was unpopular because users couldn’t tell when shift and caps lock were activated. Now in iOS 7.1 beta 5 Apple has changed it once again to show when the shift key and cap lock are active.
Apple has also been tweaking the wallpapers in iOS 7.1. Beta 3 introduced a motion option to turn off parallax and has now renamed the function to “perspective zoom” in beta 5. iTunes Radio was also updated with a “Buy Album” button.
Other features for iOS 7.1 beta 5 include Siri gaining new natural sounding voices for English (Australia), English (United Kingdom), Japanese, and Chinese (Mandarin – China). The calendar apps toggle for list view is now bolder and AirDrop has been experiencing some issues in this latest beta release.
Although it has been reported that a public launch isn’t expected until March after a long testing period the number of this build indicates Apple may be nearing the testing period and will announce a release date for iOS 7.1 soon.
