Anthony Weiner is back on Twitter, and back on the political scene. Except this time, the former New York Democratic Congressman is not posting photographs of his underwear or his bare chest. While @RepWeiner is now a thing of the past, the outspoken liberal has decided to start anew with the Twitter handle @anthonyweiner.

Notably following Weiner's departure, New York's nineth Congressional District elected Bob Turner, the first Republican to hold the badly-gerrymandered district's seat since 1923. Stretching across two boroughs, from East Flatbush, Brooklyn to Glendale, Queens, Weiner's former district included the Jacob Riis Park area of the Rockaways as well as pieces of southern Queens mostly west of Cross Bay Boulevard.

In the redistricting following the 2010 census, much of the district changed, removing most of its Queens constituency and likely forcing Turner into a faceoff with a more powerful Democratic opponent like Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y.

Weiner, however, has effectively forgotten all about any Congressional aspirations and has decided to leave the seat now held by Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y. alone and electorally confront City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, D-Manhattan, in the race to replace Michael Bloomberg as mayor of New York City.

Posting a 64-point manifesto of sorts as to what his goals would be if he makes it into Gracie Mansion, the liberal Democrat has mentioned environmentally friendlier taxicabs and ideas he believes will make New York City friendlier to the middle class.

A Quinnipiac Poll showed Weiner in a distant second to the popular Quinn, but the most nagging aspect was the 41-33 unfavorable versus favorable statistic, felt by prospective voters toward the scandal plagued politician. While Weiner seems to have toned down his persona from the obscene tweeting, House-floor-ranting [seen here] Congressman of the previous decade, Weiner faces an uphill battle to reach Downtown Manhattan.
