Former Congressman and New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner apparently didn't learn his lesson following a sex scandal in 2011. He admitted Tuesday that screencaps featuring a man sexting with a 22-year-old woman, some under the alias of Carlos Danger, were images of conversations he had even after his resignation. Weiner left politics after accidentally tweeting a picture of a his penis covered by underwear meant for a woman as a direct message. He initially lied, claiming the pictures weren't of him and that he was hacked. He later admitted that he was indeed having sexual chats with at least six women online, Time reported.
TheDirty.com first released the messages that show Weiner, 48, having explicit talks with a young woman that allegedly took place in August of 2012, NPR reported. Weiner was not specific about whether or not these conversations occurred after his resignation in a statement he made Tuesday. Huma Abdien, Weiner's wife and longtime Hilary Clinton aide, spoke about his previous scandal and said she made the choice to forgive him for herself and her son.
"I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out and today they have," said Weiner in a statement released by his campaign. "I want to again say that I am very sorry to anyone who was on the receiving end of these messages and the disruption this has caused."
The new allegations come as Weiner enters the political scene as a mayoral candidate for New York City's 2014 race. Critics question whether or not voters will be able to overlook a scandal like this a second time. Before the photos were released, Weiner led the preliminary polls and appeared wildly popular with voters. There is no new information on how these screenshots have affected his campaign.
