New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner has defied calls for him to drop out of the race after it was recently discovered that he continued "sexting" even amid the scandal caused by his accidental tweeting of a picture of his penis. On Sunday, at the 32nd annual Dominican Day parade in Manhattan, Weiner did his best to make sure New Yorkers knew he wasn't done yet. Donning a white guayabera and red pants, the candidate sprinted down Sixth Avenue waving a Dominican flag and shouting "Que viva la Republica Dominicana" into a megaphone. The 48-year-old candidate took to the parade in trying to work up support among a demographic which accounts for about 7 percent of New York City's population. Behind him, members of his campaign advanced carrying blue-and-yellow signs reading simply "Weiner!". He was joined at the parade by several other Democratic mayoral candidates, a crop which included front-runner Christine Quinn -- who also wore the colors of the Dominican flag -- Bill Thompson, Bill de Blasio and John Liu.

Quinn, who is City Council speaker, is counting on the support of Guillermo Linares, New York's first Dominican elected official, who has served on the city council and on the state assembly. De Blasio, who serves as the city's public advocate, and city comptroller John Liu have both tried out a bit of Spanish in their mayoral campaigns. According to the NY Daily News, they tweeted pictures of themselves with Spanish-language messages exhorting Quisqueyana pride.

Weiner hammed it up on his passage down Sixth Ave, during which he was offered a plantain by a woman in joking reference to his scandals -- a jest which the mayoral candidate seemed willing to accommodate. But New Yorkers are saying they're tired of him: a Siena College poll found that 62 percent of New York City voters say the national attention placed on he and scandal-plagued Eliot Spitzer's campaigns is embarrassing. And Weiner's unfavorability ratings have hit the highest percentage yet.

"Weiner has set a new all-time Siena College Poll record with 80 percent of voters viewing him unfavorably - including three-quarters of Democrats and New York City voters -- compared to only 11 percent who have a favorable view of America's most infamous tweeter," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said in a statement.
