Prior to taking the lead role as Jane Villanueva in CW's "Jane the Virgin" and nabbing her first-ever Golden Globe award in 2015, Gina Rodriguez was spotted in many short films and making appearances on popular TV shows. It's no doubt that she became a household name last year, but something tells us that 2016 will be just as successful for the Chicago-based Latina actress.
Rodriguez, who is currently on the second season of "Jane the Virgin," will be part of a sci-fi flick called "Annihilation" starring Oscar winner Natalie Portman. The film, which is directed by Alex Garland and is an adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer's "Southern Reach Trilogy" novels, tells the story of a biologist who signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don't apply.
According to The Wrap, "Creed" actress Tessa Thompson might also be joining the project. Although not much information is revealed about the forthcoming movie set to premiere in 2017, Latina reports that the ladies will play an anthropologist, a surveyor, a psychologist and a biologist.
In addition to her role in "Annihilation," the 31-year-old Puerto Rican actress is also working on two movies set to release later this year: "Sticky Notes" and "Deepwater Horizon."
