Dragon Mobile Assistant for Android may up end being a better voice assistant program than iPhone's Siri due to a productivity tool that's really good at listening. Nuance Communications, has released a 4.0 version of Dragon Mobile Assistant. Like its previous version, Dragon Assistant can make calls, send and read back texts, launch apps and music, and pull up directions or web searches. It can also keep up with where other Assistant users are located.
Where Dragon Voice Assistant separates itself from the competition is in its voice recognition powers, and the way it knows when to listen for your input. Dragon now possesses a wake-up word, and it also knows when you're driving! Now, if you are moving at a car-like speed, Dragon will initiate its Driver Mode, then it automatically starts listening for commands and starts reading you your texts and notifications.
This makes Dragon a much better option for a voice assistant application. Instead of having to hit a button like with the iPhone's Siri, Dragon Assistant listens for any launch word that is three syllables or more. You can even have your phone listen all the time, whether the app is launched or not. Pretty impressive...but beware having your phone listen all the time drains your battery.
Nuance Communications and its Dragon unit are looking to bypass competitions by possessing the ability listening well. Josh Lipe, director of consumer mobile products at Nuance, said in an interview, "We have to perform exceptionally well in all areas: the tuning of the voice, the personalized extension of the user's question, answering all sorts of questions, differentiating our product is important, but our user base are people using this application in their work, their driving, at home. We think we're on to something here."
