A 14-year-old girl was abducted Tuesday morning by two armed men who broke into her family's home. Police issued a nationwide Amber Alert for Ayvani Hope Perez, who police say was taken by two black males during an apparent home invasion. Ayvani is from Hispanic descent, has brown eyes and black hair. She is 4 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 93 pounds and was last seen wearing blue and grey "Star Wars" pajamas and a blue and grey shirt.
Clayton County police say the two men pried open a back door of the Perez home in the 3800 block of Brookgate Drive in Ellenwood area around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday. Officer Phong Nguyen said there were two kids in the home at the time, and the mother tried to hide them when the invaders broke in. The family dog started barking and one of the men shot and killed it. The home intruders demanded money and jewelry, but when Ayvani’s mother said she didn’t have any, they took the 14-year-old girl. Nguyen said the home invasion was apparently random. “It didn’t appear that they knew each other,” he said of the suspects and victims. “They just moved in about a month ago.” They fled the scene in a gray Dodge, police said.
The kidnapping left others in the neighborhood off Grant Road just east of I-675 stunned and frightened. “It’s very scary,” said Breyana Walker, a 16-year-old junior at Morrow High School. “I’m so terrified,” said the teen, who lives just down the street from Ayvani. “I feel like I need someone here with me,” she said. “It could happen to anybody. I don’t know what to do.”
Anyone with information on the girl or the suspects should call 911 or Clayton County police at 678-610-4781.
