A safari park worker in Chile has been reported dead after a tiger seemingly got out through an unlocked cage and slit her throat while she was cleaning a safari enclosure on Friday, Aug. 6.

The incident reportedly happened in a safari park in the city of Rancagua, some 90 kilometers south of the capital Santiago on Friday, Aug. 6. The victim was among the cleaning staff who were carrying out maintenance work in the tiger's enclosure in the safari park when the tragic ordeal transpired.

The victim, whose identity is still being withheld by authorities, suffered deep wounds to the neck during the tiger's attack, Fox News reported.

"She did not realize that the door of the animal’s cage was open and was immediately attacked by this tiger, causing her death on the spot," Williams Espinoza, an officer of Rancagua police force said.

The animals in the park reportedly roam free as the visitors drive through the park in their safari jeeps and vehicles. However, these animals are kept in a separate space, confined behind an electric fence, while the staff clean and maintain the enclosure.

Police have reportedly started an investigation into the incident to figure out how and why the door to the tiger’s cage was left open during the cleaning process, the Guardian reported.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a massive Siberian tiger named Jasper claimed the lives of a zookeeper and another tiger after climbing over a 12-foot-high electric fence at a South African wildlife park called Seaview Predator Park in Port Elizabeth on June 16, Latin Times reported.

On June 16, the electricity to the 12-foot-high electric fence was accidentally turned off while the enclosure in which Jasper and its sibling named Jade reside was undergoing maintenance. Jasper reportedly climbed over the fence and managed to reach the space between the electric fence and the outer fence where zookeeper David Solomon was going about his regular tasks.

Solomon reportedly tried to flee by climbing over the outward fence but was dragged off by the tiger and was fatally mauled to death. After attacking Solomon, the 675-pound tiger climbed over another fence into the next enclosure. A male tiger named Judah and its female sibling named Amber were residing in the enclosure.

Jasper reportedly attacked Judah, mauled him to death, and then proceeded to try and mate with Amber. Zoo authorities reportedly would later be forced to seek assistance from the Kragga Kamma Veterinary Hospital. A vet arrived shortly and tranquilized both Jasper and Amber and the bodies of Solomon and Judah were removed from the enclosure.

The visitors around the park were evacuated during the attack. Tourists who were in the park’s restaurant were asked to remain inside the premises till the situation was under control.

Solomon had reportedly worked at the park for 15 years and had raised Jasper since he was a cub.
