Raffaele Sollecito is the ex of accused murderer Amanda Knox. Both Knox and Sollecito were accused, tried and convicted of the 2007 murder of Knox's roommate Meredith Kercher. Kercher and Knox were both exchange students studying in Perugia, Italy. Knox is from Seattle while Kercher was from the UK.
In 2011 Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were set free after a judge overturned their convictions in the Kercher murder trial due to insufficient evidence.

Amanda Knox Case: Italian Court Orders Retrial For Murder Of Meredith Kercher
Now the Italian high court has ordered a retrial and both Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito are faced with the prospect of a life behind bars, again.
Amanda Knox's ex, Raffaele Sollecito was on NBC's the Today Show for an exclusive interview about the retrial and to promote his new book. "Honor Bound: My Journey To Hell and Back with Amanda Knox" hit book shelves last September.
In his book as well as the Today Show interview Sollecito spoke about his and Knox's innocence. Italian prosecutors gave him chance after chance to turn on Amanda Knox and blame Kercher's death on her. Despite having only been in a relationship with Knox for 7-days Sollecito refused to abandon his girlfriend.
In his interview with Savannah Guthrie, Sollecito maintains that he and Knox are innocent.
"Everybody know that we are-I'm innocent and we got evidence of our innocence," Sollecito said to Guthrie. "So we will fight until the end without any worry."
Sollecito said he was not afraid of being convicted and sent back to jail because he believes the court will see he and Knox are innocent.
"I already know that I'm innocent and we already have proved it. So for me, it's kind of nonsense."
Guthrie asked Sollecito why he stuck by Knox despite only knowing her a short while. Sollecito said he asked himself the same question and the answer was that he would not be able to live with himself if he was to let an innocent girl be put in jail for life.
"[Knox] told me that she thinks that I'm a kind of hero," Sollecito said. "But I don't feel so, I don't need any kind of gratitude."
"I did it because I know it's the truth. It's the good thing to do. It's the only way for me."
In his book Sollecito says he agreed that some of Amanda Knox's behavior was odd but that does not prove her guilt.
"There's nothing inside the murder scene that links us to the murder."
CNN analyzed the evidence at the murder seen. What they say is that there are no finger prints on the door to Kercher's room and "scant blood in the rest of the house." They even point out that another man with no real connection to Knox or Sollecito was convicted of the murder.
The retrial of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito will begin sometime in 2014. The pair do not have to been in court as the trial goes on. There is speculation as to whether or not the US will extradite Knox if she is found guilty.
