It was the wedding of the year! Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor finally tied the knot! George Clooney said his I dos to London barrister Amal Alamuddin in Venice, Italy, and we can say he definitely scored the best woman possible! Amal is a London-based dual-qualified English barrister and New York litigation attorney. A high profile figure in international refugee and human rights, Miss Alamuddin – or should we say Mrs. Clooney? – also finds time to serve on the expert panel of Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative, to gather evidence of sexual crimes committed in conflict zones.
If that wasn’t enough for you, Amal represented Julian Assange, the controversial WikiLeaks whistleblower. She’s also fluent in English, French and Arabic, and has become a style icon for corporate women across the globe. Her wedding weekend was no difference. She was the definition of class and elegance while celebrating her nuptials, opting for classic designers that delivered their ensembles with the “Amal touch.” For her most important outfit, her wedding dress, she chose Dominican-born designer Oscar de la Renta, who made her look like a princess out of a fairytale.
According to People, who has the wedding exclusive, Alamuddin looked radiant in a very traditional French lace gown, hand embroidered with pearls and diamante stones. The gown featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and a full train, and the look was finished with a cathedral-length lace-edged veil. “It was simple and grand,” a source told the magazine of the dress. “It had all the hallmarks of a grand de la Renta style.” Amal had nothing but praise to her designer as well, “He's such an elegant designer and such an elegant man.”
“George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress,” Alamuddin told Vogue during her final fitting at Oscar de la Renta’s New York atelier. “Meeting him made the design process all the more magical, as he is so warm and such a gentleman.”
As for de la Renta, he spoke about how it was like working on Amal’s wedding dress. “It’s the most important dress in the life of a woman,” he said. “Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her. Amal and I looked at a lot of evening dresses and wedding dresses together, and we discussed what she liked. That gave me the idea of what she wanted.” And in case you were wondering, de la Renta also provided Alamuddin with her party dress from his fall 2014 collection.
