Houston police found two highly decomposed bodies inside an 18-wheeler truck overnight, with officials saying their state was such that they looked "almost like mummies."
Authorities had to use a ladder truck to get inside the vehicle and recover the bodies and believe the deceased were living inside of it, considering things had been moved around inside. The cause of death remains unclear as there were no obvious signs of trauma.
Moreover, given their state of decomposition, the medical examiner will have to investigate further to reach a conclusion. While it's not clear how long they have been dead for, evidence suggests a long time.
Police found out about the bodies after receiving a call from a person who, they said, overheard a group of homeless people talking about two bodies in the back of a truck. The person then called 911 to convey the message.
Lt. R. Willkens told ABC 13 officers climbed to the top of the truck and found a hole cut out. "they found out when they looked in the hole, there appears to be two bodies for sure," Willkens said.
An employee at the scene told the outlet that the trucks are filled with donated clothes destined to Value Village thrift stores and that homeless people cutting holes in trailers has been ongoing for a while.
