A woman's violent plot to recover a cellphone containing proof of her infidelities has resulted in four arrests, the Cameron County Sheriff's office said.
The incident took place on June 25, after Angélica Reyes hired two men to stage a robbery in order to get the phone. One of the two men, Brian Rodríguez and Juan Carlos Macías put a handgun to the victim's head while demanding he give them his cell phone.
They then fired a gun toward the ground to scare the victim into complying, law enforcement said in a press release. The document does not specify which suspect manipulated the gun.
The alleged robbers were arrested two days after the incident, on June 27. On the 29th, however, investigators learned that the robbery's ulterior purpose was recovering the cellphone. Rodríguez's sister, Jade Urenda, contacted Reyes to demand she make a $100 transaction as payment, something she then did.
As a result, Reyes was booked on July 12 and charged with aggravated robbery and engaging in organized criminal activity. She is being held on $100,000 in bonds. Urenda faces the same charges but she is not being held in county jail.
Rodríguez and Macías are also under arrest. The former is charged of aggravated robbery and possession of a controlled substance, while the latter has been charged with aggravated robbery. They are being held on $103,000 and $50,000 bonds, respectively.
