The sequel to “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” is already in the works, and Netflix has already dropped a few details about the project. Since the romantic comedy film was one of the streaming giant’s most successful releases of 2018, the announcement did not come as a surprise for fans. Two more books followed the novel on which the first film was based, so the film adaptation is likely to follow suit by having two sequels as well. Here are the first details we know so far about “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before 2.”
New Director
While Netflix will still produce the sequel, Susan Johnson won’t be back as the director. Instead, she will serve as the executive producer with “The Haunting Of Hill House” and “Ouija” cinematographer Michael Fimognari replacing Johnson at the helm.
Returning Cast
As expected, lead stars Lana Condor and Noah Centineo will reprise their roles as Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky in the sequel, along with Anna Cathart, John Corbett and Janel Parrish as Lara Jean’s 15-year-old sister Kitty, father and elder sister, respectively.
A Love Triangle
The second book in the “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy featured a love triangle between Lara Jean, Peter Kavinsky and newcomer John Ambrose. Although Netflix has yet to drop details about the second film’s plot, if the mid-credit scene in the first film is anything to go by, it looks like the sequel will introduce John Ambrose.
In the mid-credit scene of the first film, Ambrose showed up at the Covey house with Lara Jean’s love letter. Lara Jean had a crush on him when they were in the model UN.
New Plot Points
Though the second novel, “P.S. I Love You,” is likely to serve as the basis for the upcoming sequel, it’s possible that it may borrow certain plot points from the third novel, “Always And Forever, Lara Jean,” too. This is because some of the plot points from “P.S. I Love You” have already happened in the first film — case in point, Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky’s hot tub scene. Johnson also previously hinted that the sequel might bring in parts of book three.
Release Date
Since the first film was released on Aug. 17, 2018, after filming in summer 2017, there’s a chance that fans could see the sequel in late 2019. Otherwise, fans might have to wait until 2020.
