Back in 2013, Alicia Machado confirmed she was going to play Jenni Rivera in the upcoming film about “La Diva de la Banda’s” life, “"I was prepping for the movie that starts shooting this August. In fact, I'll be traveling to LA in July to continue my acting classes, I already got together with Jenni's family, with her brother Lupillo and her sister," the 38-year-old actress told Elenco during an interview.
Fast forward 3 years and a lot of rumors have surfaced regarding Rivera’s biopic. Back in April, Chiquis Rivera told the media she would love to play her mom in the film. After her acting debut in “Tattooed Love,” Chiquis mentioned she was preparing and also trying to understand the acting world.
Although none of the above has been confirmed, Machado brought the subject back during a press conference in Mexico City a few days ago, “I was auditioning to play Jenni Rivera in the movie that will be produced eventually. Pretty well, supposedly it’s a yes. Right now they are dealing with copyright and such but…fingers crossed,” the former Miss Universe stated.
According to Telemundo, Machado expressed it would be a great challenge to play “La Diva de la Banda, “It would be the best, fantastic, it would be a great challenge for me as an actress.”
The Venezuelan native is currently preparing for her big debut as “Mame” in the musical with the same name, which starts a new season in Mexico.
