Alfa Romeo 4C will begin at $69,695 for Launch Edition, $53,900 for Standard model. Alfa Romeo

The long-awaited Alfa Romeo 4C is expected to arrive in showrooms by the end of 2014. In fact, Fiat Chrysler Group announced that a distribution network of 86 dealerships has been set up for North America. Three dealerships will be located in Canada, while the remaining 83 will be spread across 33 states, with the heaviest concentration in California, Texas, and Florida.

Alfa Romeo last sold a vehicle in the United States in 1996. To celebrate its return, the first batch of Alfa Romeo 4C sports cars will be Launch Edition specials, featuring carbon-fiber trim, LED headlights, unique wheels, sport suspension, sport exhaust, and more. The Launch Edition Alfa Romeo 4C will start at a steep $69,695.

The standard Alfa Romeo 4C will start at a more reasonable $53,900, or $55,195 including destination charges. According to insiders, Alfa Romeo projects a $62k to $65k range sweet spot as customers are more likely to add options and packages to their new cars.

Finally, the biggest news regarding the North American 4C is its weight. The U.S.-spec Alfa Romeo 4C weighs just 2,495 pounds, putting it just below the desired 2,500 pound benchmark. That said, the Euro-spec Alfa Romeo 4C still manages to weigh 342 pounds less at a remarkable 2,153 pounds. NHTSA safety regulations are more strict than the European counterpart and requires the 4C to have side airbags as well as additional structural reinforcement to the carbon-fiber tub frame. What's more, the U.S. Alfa Romeo 4C will offer an adjustable passenger seat, stereo system, and A/C control as standard equipment.

Following the standard Alfa Romeo 4C, rumors of a special 'RS Stradale' model offering significantly more power have been reported as well. Stay tuned as we find out more about the highly anticipated Alfa Romeo 4C in the months ahead.
