It took "Today" show host Al Roker 39 perfect years to accidentally oversleep, missing his "Wake Up With Al" show on The Weather Channel.
"After 39 years, it happened. I overslept and missed a show. Missed #WUWA. But will be on time for @today," the 58-year-old weatherman tweeted at 5:41 a.m.
He quickly turned his mistake into a social media public relations boost for the network, however, asking his Twitter followers to share their own oversleeping stories.
Roker also couldn't resist poking fun at himself by posting a Vine video of him yawning as he arrived on the Today set.
"Morning, Sleepyhead. Overslept and missed #wuwa Here on time for TODAY," he added.
His NBC colleagues couldn't help themselves either from teasing the near-perfect weatherman.
Savannah Guthrie posted about the usually-prompt anchor saying: "Whoa. You know those people you can set your watch to? The always on time people? @alroker *used* to be one of them #oversleeping" and "Disturbance in the force."
Matt Lauer joined the fun tweeting a picture of a sharp-dressed Roker with the caption "RIP Van Roker" referencing Washington Irving's "Rip Van Winkle."
And even the "Today" show Twitter feed also had a good laugh at his expense, observing, "@alroker joking this morning that he's going to change #WUWA to, 'Al Wake Up!!!' #oversleeping."
His cohosts also gave Roker a hard time once he showed up for that morning news show. When asked by Guthrie, Lauer and Natalie Morales about what happened, Al admitted his alarm just failed to do the job.
"Well, just you know...my phone didn't go off and somebody said, 'What's your backup?' and I said, 'For 39 years I didn't need one,'" he replied.
In a 2012 interview with Parade, Roker dished on his weekday schedule, admitting he wakes up at 3:30 a.m. and is ready to go on air at 6 o'clock with "Wake Up With Al," followed by three hours of "Today" show. On Sundays he said he likes to sleep in until 9 a.m., "if the kids let me."
"It's early! I could probably get up a little later, but I don't like to rush into the day," he added. "I'm fortunate that I have a great job. I love what I'm doing, so that helps. If you're doing stuff you really enjoy it makes it a lot easier."
Although we agree he loves what he does because it shows, we're pretty sure this little mishap made him get a back up alarm just in case.
