An airport explosion at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport forced security to evacuate Concourse D Tuesday morning following an electrical explosion. The airport explosion happened around 8:40am Tuesday morning.
No injuries were reported in the airport explosion. The cause of the electrical explosion has yet to be determined. Airport general manager Louis Miller told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that airport officials are trained to react to these types of situations even when the cause is unknown.
"We prepare for the worst and hope for the best. That is exactly how we approach that. We are not certain what exactly happened."
After the small airport explosion the concourse lost power. ABC says the airport explosion went off near a maintenance shop at gate 21-D. Passengers were evacuated to another concourse but allowed to return to D-level around 10am.
The Atlanta airport explosion did not start a fire or give off any smoke. No injuries were reported and passangers were allowed to return to their gate once the area was secure. Officials are investigating the cause of the explosion.
