Abusive Brother Faces 25 Years For Brutally Raping, Attempting To Murder Underage Sister

An abusive brother from Eastern Cape has reportedly been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for brutally raping and attempting to murder his underage sister.

On Monday, June 14, the accused, a 21-year-old man from Despatch, reportedly pleaded guilty to raping and attempting to murder his sister before the Eastern Cape High Court in Gqeberha, reported News24.

The horrifying crime reportedly took place on July 12, 2019, in their family home in Despatch.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani said the suspect had been visiting friends and "smoking drugs the whole day" on the date of the assault. At the time of the crime, the accused was reportedly alone at home with his sister, then 15. Their mother was gone for work in Gqeberha.

"An argument erupted between the two siblings and the brother started beating her with a brick. He then asked her for sex and she refused. He forcefully undressed her. She resisted and he struck her face with a brick. As he raped her, she scratched his face. He then continued striking her on the face and head with a brick," said Ngcakani.

The accused allegedly stabbed her with a knife after raping her and left her unconscious at the house. The accused was arrested on Nov. 5, 2019, and has been in custody since.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 25-year-old Bihari woman was allegedly raped and stabbed to death by her brother-in-law on May 9. The incident reportedly took place in the Siwan district, Bihar, India. The woman was living away from her in-laws at her parent’s place when the incident occurred, according to sources.

Police discovered the deceased woman lying in a pool of blood at the crime scene, naked below the waist and a pair of trousers belonging to the accused next to her. The knife with which the woman was stabbed was recovered around 10-12 meters away from the spot.

The accused reportedly cycled to the victim’s place from Parshurampur on Saturday night, May 8. The crime was reportedly committed in the dead of night when the victim had gone to a nearby field to relieve herself. The accused fled on his bicycle after committing the murder but was soon arrested by the police.
