Since Donald Trump returned to office multiple abortion advocacy organizations have reported that their Instagram accounts have been shadow-banned, had posts removed or were temporarily suspended.

Groups such as Hey Jane, Aid Access and Women Help Women claim their content has become harder to find, raising concerns that social media censorship of abortion-related information is increasing under Trump's administration, the Guardian reported.

Following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022, Instagram and TikTok removed numerous posts mentioning abortion pills, while Facebook temporarily suspended accounts that shared such information.

Abortion rights groups have since struggled to navigate social media policies that frequently classify their content as violating regulations against selling prescription drugs.

Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, has stated that its policies prohibit the sale of prescription medication but allow verified providers to advertise.

Trump previously stated that he would leave abortion rights up to states. However, he recently signed two executive orders limiting access to abortions and contraception nationwide.

If Trump's administration takes a more aggressive stance on abortion-related online content, platforms like Meta may face increasing pressure to comply with government demands.
