8 University Students Injured After Classmate 'All of a Sudden' Started Swinging Hammer: Report

A South Korean student was arrested after swinging a hammer during a class, injuring eight students.

The attack took place Friday, January 10, at Tokyo's Hosei University's Tama campus in a packed classroom, where the student reportedly began swinging the hammer without warning, according to the Guardian.

The 22-year-old suspect, a sociology student, claimed she had been ignored and bullied by classmates, which led to her actions.

Eight students sustained minor injuries, and the attacker was apprehended at the scene.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as students fled, with some noting the attacker's emotionless demeanor. All injured students have been treated, with none requiring hospitalization.

Authorities are investigating the suspect's claims of bullying and the possibility of premeditation.

Hosei University responded to the attack saying it would "ensure campus safety."

"We will cooperate with police investigations and care for students and faculty shocked by the incident," the institution said.
