A 7-year-old girl who reportedly died after she ate a chocolate bar without removing its wrapper last month was found to have suffered a cardiac arrest and did not choke to death. The incident reportedly happened in Byndoor, Udupi, Karnataka, India on July 20.
The deceased girl, identified only as 7-year-old Samanvi, a Class II student at Vivekananda English Medium School in Byndoor, reportedly consumed the chocolate bar without removing the packaging while she was waiting for her school bus at a bus stop near her house on July 20. However, soon after she ate the chocolate, Samanvi fell unconscious, collapsed, and died, Times Now reported.
Initially, the investigating officers assumed that the youngster choked and died as a result of the chocolate wrapper being stuck in her throat. However, according to Pavan Nayak, sub-inspector of the local Byndoor Police Station, the deceased girl's autopsy report has revealed that the minor died as a result of cardiac arrest and not due to choking.
Following the discovery, further medical examinations conducted by the doctors bared that the girl's family members have had heart-related disorders for generations.
"The doctors who performed the autopsy also subjected her family members to medical examinations, which revealed that they have heart-related disorders, and it is a genetic condition," Nayak said.
Meanwhile, a report from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) proved that the chocolate wrapper that the girl consumed along with the chocolate had nothing to do with the young girl's death, the Indian Express reported.
"We also requested a report from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), which proved that the chocolate wrapper had nothing to do with Samanvi's death," Nayak added.
Following the discovery of the true nature of her passing, the authorities have officially closed the case in connection with Samanvi's death.
According to sources, on the day of the incident, Samanvi's mother, Supreetha, offered her the chocolate to pamper her since she started crying after she was told that she had to go to school in the morning. Samanvi is reportedly survived by her siblings and parents, Karunakar and Supreetha.
