A 51-year-old woman was reportedly gunned down by a 41-year-old gunman who allegedly knew the victim.
Killed was 51-year-old, Anna Torres. She was reportedly the mother of a New York Police Department (NYPD) Officer.
According to the Post, Torres answered the door and was fatally shot twice – once in the head. At her two-story, single-family home at 94-59 109th Ave. in Ozone Park at about 2:30 p.m. according to officers.
Torres was pronounced dead at the scene. There were two relatives at the apartment at the time according to NYPD Deputy Chief Jerry O’Sullivan during a press conference.
The assailant was identified as Giuseppe Canzani. The 41-year-old man fled the scene after the incident in a black Chevy Traverse.
However at about 3:30 p.m., Canzani pulled up to the 106th Precinct in the same vehicle before exiting and placing a .45-caliber silver firearm on the sidewalk according to O’Sullivan.
There were two officers at the station at the time and immediately arrested Canzani without incident.
Police stated that the 41-year-old would be charged with murder and criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
As of this writing, it could not be confirmed what Canzani’s motive was for shooting Torres. It could not be independently verified by Latin Times as well.
Further, Canzani and Torres allegedly knew each other to some extent. However, the exact nature of their relationship remains unknown but did not appear to be romantic according to police.
A look at his records showed that Canzani had no prior arrests. It was the first fatal shooting incident at the 106th Precinct this year.
So far, there have been people who were shot and killed within the precinct confines last summer and early fall. That included a 31-year-old man who was shot multiple times in the back at the corner of 134th Street and Rockaway Boulevard in Ozone Park at around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 2.
The male victim, whose identity was not revealed, was pronounced dead at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
