A 44-year-old woman who was reportedly raped on July 31 has shared distressful images of her face after she was attacked by a 46-year-old homeless man in California.

The woman was identified as Marissa Young who was walking her dogs on that day at around 1:00 a.m. At some point, the attacker, identified as Darrell Waters jumped her.

It was added that Walters had just been released from jail a few hours before the attack. Waters was arrested several days earlier on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of a dagger, CBS News reported.

According to Young, she was pushed to the ground by her attacker and then raped.

“I was tackled from behind, I heard nothing,” Young told KTLA. “I didn’t have headphones in, I wasn’t looking at my phone, I was just walking straight forward to my destination.”

When she was down, the 44-year-old added how she was also mercilessly assaulted by the rapist and punched in the face between 15 to 20 times.

“This person punched me in the face, closed-fisted, 15 to 20 times at least,” she told the outlet. “My nose is broken in four different places and this bone was shattered here [she points to her upper cheek area]. You can still see a lot of swelling in my face,” Young quipped.

Further, she recalls fighting for her life at the time and that the assault lasted for about 30 minutes.

“It was a crime of opportunity, because I’m of small stature and my back was to him,” Young added.

Waters would eventually be charged with one felony count each of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation and sexual penetration by use of force.

But for Young, it is disturbing how someone like Waters was allowed to walk after already getting arrested before the rape incident. According to the Torrance City Attorney’s Office, this was in accordance with the penal code.

“It’s horrifying to think that they were holding this guy with a huge knife that was taken off him that’s illegal and he was let go the next day even though he has a record,” Young said.
