A 44-year-old former primary school teacher from Yorkshire has been sentenced to 12 years after pleading guilty to 15 charges that included sexual activity with a child.
The man was identified as Douglas Speight who reportedly secretly filmed sex acts between him and a teenage boy. Aside from that, “Duggie” also recorded other young boys while they were changing at swimming baths.
It comes as a surprise considering Speight was one of the respected teachers at the Yorkshire school where he served for more than 20 years.
According to the Bradford Crown Court, Speight invited a 15-year-old boy to his flat amid the lockdown. He played games such as strip beer-pong and had given the victim cider and spirits, Yorkshire Live reported.
Local police searched Speight’s apartment following a complaint earlier this year. Authorities found a tablet and two mobile phones hidden in a void behind a picture and an air vent.
The tablet contained videos of Speight’s sex acts with the teenager. Footages of three other kids at the swimming baths were also found on the phones.
Aside from the gadgets, police also found sex toys. It was also revealed that the teacher had spent about £500 ($692) buying gifts for the teenager.
As a result of the findings, the Recorder of Bradford Judge Richard Mansell QC described Speight as “a dangerous, predatory, manipulative pedophile.” The teenager was also lauded for bravely revealing the sexual abuse he had experienced.
Aside from the 12-year jail term, Speight also drew an extended 20-year sentence for his crimes.
Judge Mansell added that Speight is not being considered for release by the Parole Board until he served two-thirds of the 12-year sentence. He would only be released if they decide it would be safe to do so.
Moreover, Speight will have to sign a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life as well as an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. This bans him from unsupervised contact with any children.
“He stole my son’s innocence and we can never get that back,” the mother of the teenager said.
