4.6 magnitude earthquake hits Los Angeles with the epicenter near Long Beach

An earthquake hit the city of Los Angeles on Monday. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre initially reported it to be a 4.7 shift in the Richter Scale, but the US Geological Survey later revised it to 4.6. Movements between 4 and 5 in the scale are considered to be "light," with between 10,000 and 15,000 registered across the world every year.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 7.5 miles and hundreds of people across the greater Los Angeles area reported feeling the shake, according to the USGS "Felt Report." The Los Angeles Fire Department has gone into "earthquake mode" after the tremor ended, according to KTLA 5, with teams conducting surveys of different districts to check for damage to infrastructure or areas of concern.
