Prince William and Prince Harry may not always speak openly about Princess Diana, but this doesn’t mean that their mother’s memory is far from their minds. Although the Princess of Wales is no longer around for nearly 22 years, her sons made sure that she stays alive in their lives and memories.

The two princes always find ways to include her in their world today, even when they each already have their own families. Below are some ways princes William and Harry made their mother a part of some important moments in their lives.

The Documentary

Prince William and Prince Harry agreed to do a documentary to pay tribute to their mother, Princess Diana. HBO released “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life And Legacy” in 2017, and the film showed the princes sharing stories about their mom while they check out photos in their family album.

When the Princess of Wales died on Aug. 31, 1997, William was only 15 and Harry was 12. But as they narrated their stories, it was apparent that the brothers and Princess Diana managed to create lots of happy memories together.

William’s And Harry’s Engagement Proposals

To make sure that Princess Diana’s memory is present on the day he got engaged, Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with a sapphire-and-diamond ring that belonged to his mother. On the announcement of his engagement, the prince shared how much he values the ring he gave to his soon-to-be wife.

“It’s very special to me,” Today quoted the prince as saying. “It’s my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement and the fact we are going to spend the rest of our lives together.”

Prince Harry’s proposal to Meghan Markle didn’t include a ring that belonged to her mother. However, the prince put together some gems that have important meaning. In a trilogy-style ring, he placed a large diamond in the center, which was sourced from Botswana, a place where he and Meghan vacationed together. Two smaller diamonds were also placed at the sides, and these were from Princess Diana’s personal collection.

The Princes’ Weddings

Meghan’s bouquet at her wedding to Prince Harry was made using forget-me-nots, Princess Di’s favorite flower. It was said that the flowers were personally picked by Harry from the Kensington Palace garden.

Prince William also paid tribute to his late mother during his wedding when he requested “Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer” to be included in the lineup of songs to be sung during the nuptials. This song piece was played at his mother’s funeral.

Their Charity Works

Prince William and Harry made sure that their mom’s memories will live forever by continuing her legacy of charity works. Like Princess Diana, the brothers supported many causes, including AIDS, mental health and homelessness.
