The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics are just around the corner and with loads of action set to take place over 18 days, this year’s edition of the winter games certainly won’t disappoint. Thanks to non-stop television coverage of each of the 15 sports, the Sochi Olympics offer something for everyone, with some of the most popular figures in sports representing their respective countries. Though champion skier Lindsey Vonn will be absent from the tournament as she continues to recover from injury, big time stars in U.S. hockey standout Patrick Kane, Canadian hockey hero Sidney Crosby and German Alpine talent Viktoria Rebensburg headline a strong class of individual athletes hoping to bring a medal home to their country.
Set to begin on Thursday, February 6, the XXII Olympic Winter Games will enjoy comprehensive coverage from multiple outlets, allowing people across the globe to view the best athletes in multiple sports. This year’s slate begins with various events in skiing, snowboarding and figure skating. At 1:00am, ET on February 6, the women’s super-combined – Training 1 will open up followed by events in men’s slopestyle snowboarding, men’s downhill, women’s slopestyle and women’s moguls. Back-to-back sessions of men’s team short program figure skating and pairs team short program figure skating will help conclude a solid opening to the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Men’s and women’s curling – which has become one of the most popular winter events in recent years – gets underway on Monday, February 10 with round robin showdowns on the men’s side pitting Denmark against China, Germany against Canada and Russia versus Great Britain. The opening round of women’s curling begins later that day and will feature match-ups between the United States and Switzerland, China versus Canada and Russia versus Denmark. In addition to the aforementioned events, men’s ice hockey will begin on February 12 with each game broadcast live. The tournament opens with a match between the Czech Republic and Sweden while defending Gold Medal winners Canada face off against Norway at Noon on February 13. The United States begin their quest for a gold medal at 7:30am, ET on February 13 against Slovakia. The USA fell to Canada in the 2010 Gold Medal game after Sidney Crosby netted the game-winner in overtime.
